History of Halloween

Originally,Halloween was a harvest festival of Celtics. From the origin it was event of an Anglo-Saxon.

The Celtics had faith in many nature gods. Especially, god of sun charged the harvest and the work. So they thought it was very important. Even more they determined the November 1 was the first day of the year. The reason is that they thought cold and dark day start from this day. The legend of Celtics the god of sun was taken as a hostage by the god of death and price of darkness. The god of death invited the dead person and devil. So people got the new fire. They danced around the fire to drive off the devil. Also they did the parade. And they wore the costume made by fur of animals. 


Also Roman Catholic did festival. A church determined the November 1 is “All Saints’ Day” in 835. They recalled the messengers and burn the bonfire. People wore the costume of angel and devil and did the parade.
